Site Updates-311212

update-logo-Christmas

Updates as of 29-31.Dec, 2012:

I guess, these are the last problems I have a pleasure to publish this year.. Thanks a lot to all authors for sending their problems during this year! Thanks to all commentators! – you make this site interesting and educational! I wish a Happy New Year to all of you and I’ll be happy to see you here again in 2013! –Julia

  • (31.12) And the very last problem published in 2012 – a complicated mix of two conditions – Anti Take&Make and Take&Make – by Diyan Kostadinov in No.213! Hm… number 213 just before the year 2013! Funny!
  • (31.12) I like the idea of Themis Argirakopoulos to send a greeting problem to the Award of the Christmas Blitz! See a nice Christmas tree in No.212! But I can add that together with the judge we’re working under the Award. It is almost ready and will be presented tomorrow during the day time!
  • (30.12) For this problem Peter Harris even gives some hints to the solvers! Does it mean that No.211 is even more complicated then all Peter’s problems I’ve published before?!!
  • (29.12) An excellent Take & Make play is presented in a problem No.210 by Pierre Tritten!
  • (29.12) See a long play of Chameleon pawns in a problem No.209 by János Mikitovics !

You can click on the Original Problems tab on the top to see the whole list of published problems. Problem numbers are links to the problems – click on any number to see the problem. Standard search using Ctrl+F also works for the list.

I’d like to ask you – if you see anything incorrect in this list, or some problems (or published versions of them) are not included – please let me know! Sometimes I add there new problems with some delay, but before the last record all the other should exist. Thank you!!

WinChloe update of Echecs – 121012

WinChloe – latest update of
WinChloe Echecs database!

  • The latest update (as of 12-Oct-2012) of WinChloe Echecs database is available for those, who uses it. The number of problems has increased till 444141 !   In September I was written about the update as of 12-Sep-12 – there were 441047 problems that time. So, 3094 new problems are added in 1 month!
  • 74 of original problems published at juliasfairies.com are added to WinChloe Echecs database as of 12-Oct.
  • I’d like to write more about WinChloe in my section Software/WinChloe – hopefully, will find time somehow! But for now a little info I haven’t mentioned on my pages: although, WinChloe has user interface in 2 languages (French and English), most of fairy pieces and conditions are in French. So, for non-french speaking beginners I’d advice to visit WinChloe‘s author’s website – Problemesis by Christian Poisson – to see the translations and definitions of
    fairy pieces   (http://christian.poisson.free.fr/problemesis/pieces.html),
    fairy conditions (http://christian.poisson.free.fr/problemesis/condus.html);
link to WinChloe (http://winchloe.free.fr/) and some more useful information.

Forum – Recent Posts

Some time ago I’ve written about adding Forum to the site. That time a link to it was shown on the top of the right menu. Now I’ve changed it a little, adding  Forum / Форум  header with a links to the Recent Posts to it. I believe, such option is more useful. Your comments to the Forum are very welcome!

New: Forum

Dear Friends,

I’ve just added a Forum to the site!

Still not sure if it might be interesting or not, but probably have to try to find out! 🙂

For now I’ve created some groups there, but any changes are possible of course! I’d appreciate your suggestions about the topics to add!

TOP menu of the site is almost full and I don’t like to create the second line for it for now, so I’ve added a link to the Forum on the right part, right above Recent Posts.

You need a registration to post anything to the forum. If you have registered on the site (on the bottom part of the right area) – the same registration works for the forum. The Login on the welcome screen of the forum can be used instead of general Login on the site.

I’ve tested it a little. But, I’m afraid, some errors are still possible. Please be patient! And I’d be grateful for your help in testing!

Sincerely, Julia

6 months!

Julia’s Fairies – 6 months!

On the 10th of October JuliasFairies.com becomes 6 month old!

I’m so happy that it has become well-known for this half a year! I’m so thankful for your activity, for almost 150 original problems published here, for about 55 problems I already have for my first Thematic tourney, for your comments and for your mails! This all means a lot to me, and motivates a lot! Thank you, dear authors, commentators and readers!

Let me show you the wonderful gift I’ve got from the one who supports me and this site a lot, who shares his knowledge with all of us, who is simply the best in fairies, and who is the best teacher I ever had – 2 problems by GM Petko A. Petkov:
No.148 – dedicated to me;
No.149 – dedicated to the 6th month Jubilee of the site Julia’s Fairies!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, dear Petko! I’m afraid I can’t find more words – I’m very touched and happy!..

I wish the success to the site, and to all of you in your composing and in your life!

Your, Julia

My Vacation – oct2012

Dear Friends,
I’d like to let you know that I’ll be on vacation with limited internet access for a week – 06-13th October.  Going to my lovely Italy, with family, – so with all devices like smart mobile phone, computer and mobile Internet there, I doubt I will be able to work much being with kids on Adriatic sea! 🙂
But the site will be up and running and I’ll read mails few times per day for sure. I’m thinking about what might be needed from me… and this is what I’ve found to comment:

  • Of course, please continue to send your problems for Thematic tourney JULIA’S FAIRIES – HSP – 2012 – I will read mail, and will reply with confirmations about receiving!
  • About Original problems for the site: I can’t promise to publish them the same day as received, but still I hope to be able to publish at least 1 problem in few days. Anyway, I will inform the authors about planned publication, and for sure everything I’ve got during that week will be on the site after 14th.
  • About Comments on the site: only your first comment on the site needs an approval from me. All the next comments, in case of using the same name and email address in the comment form, will be published automatically right after posting. If you post comment for the first time during that week, it will be approved with some delay, during the day.
  • If you would like me to publish some information on the site – please make it almost ready for publication. I will try to put it on the web in 1-2 days.
  • If you have anything urgent to publish – please send it by Friday, the 5th!
  • Hm… for now I have no more idea what also? I have a  funny feeling about leaving the site as a little baby without my permanent supervision.. Please take some care of it! 🙂

Your, Julia

Popeye – short history

I’m happy to  add a new topic to the section about Popeye solving software –

A short history of POPEYE
by Thomas Brand, Germany

I’m very grateful to Thomas for sharing his  memories and I’d like to invite all of you to add your own views of how it all has began…

I’d like to mention that some time before Thomas Brand has written to me about his own batch-scripts for Popeye he uses for a long time. There’re also some interesting moments to compare with what I’ve written in my Batch-scripts to run PopeyeSo, I’ll add later what I’ve learned!

Also, Thomas has just started his retro blog –  www.thbrand.de – the author tells about: “I hope to have some interesting stuff for retro friends (and also interested beginners). In the moment the articles and pages are mostly “German only”, but I plan to provide English translations or summaries at least.”
