Post composing and storing chess problems on handhelds
on: December 2, 2012, 12:01

In this age of smartphones, i think we need an application to:
1. create and store positions
2. no solving engine required.. just a plain board/pieces representation
3. fairy pieces required - can be done by using normal pieces rotated
4. board size should be variable - say 1x1 to 8x8 as a minimum

I had programmed such an application on the now defunct series of Casio PDAs called pocketviewers. I still cart around my Casio PV-s450 just for this one application!

Trying to replicate the effort on iOS or Android is more than what I can chew off at present..

I've searched the iOS and Android market for a suitable application.. but in vain..

Any of our programmer friends would take the trouble..?

I'd love to have such one for Android! But solving engine would be also a very pleased thing there!
About fairy pieces - I think it would be good to have at least some kind of figure with a popeye-codes of the fairy pieces on it, as it is complicated to get different rotations for all fairy pieces, or some assigning (as in WinChloe) is needed every time for each diagram. Although, there're some other ideas about the algorithm of assigning rotated figures to the pieces used... could discuss if there's any interest.
Anyway, dear programmers, we need you!!

Have downloaded the google/mit app creator.. which is supposed to help create android apps faster.. without getting into the messy details of the sdk, etc..
I'll see if i can turn out anything..
But need to finish jf2012 award first.. 🙂
