No.605 by Peter Harris – Surprising mates with thematic effects! (JV)

Definitions:

Einstein chess: All units (Ks excluded) change their type when they move, according to a precise pattern. For non-capture moves: Q>R, R>B, B>S, S>P, P remains P. For capture-moves: R>Q, B>R, S>B, P>S, Q remains Q.

Isardam: Any move, including capture of the King, is Isardam illegal if a Madrasi-type paralysis would result from it.

Madrasi: Units, other than Kings, are paralysed when they attack each other. Paralysed units cannot move, capture or give check, their only power being that of causing paralysis.

The K or the Black piece could move along the vertical or diagonal lines. However with Isardam + Einstein the K is in check. And not only in check it is mate. This features in the problem. [Of interest is the position with Isardam + Chameleonchess: the K would be in check but it would not be mate].
