No.782 by Alberto Armeni & Vito Rallo – AUW in a joint play of Orphan and Imitator (not supported in Popeye)! But if the creation of twin d) is legal?(JV)

Definitions:

Imitator (I): Every time a piece moves an Imitator (or a set of Imitators) moves simultaneously in an identical manner. An Imitator cannot move of itself. If an Imitator cannot imitate the move of a piece, the move is illegal. An Imitator may only pass through or enter an unoccupied square and cannot move off the board. Castling is imitated by decomposing into a King move followed by a Rook move.

Orphan (O): An orphan can move only when observed by an enemy piece; when so observed it can move like the observing piece(s).

Interesting use of the orphan and imitator. The motivation for underpromotions to B/R is good. Julia, why do you think that twin (d) is not ok? It is similar to twin c.

• Julia says:

Yes, twin d) is from c), but in fact it is Oe2->d2 + Od2->g1 => Oe2->g1.

• seetharaman says:

Yes. Progressive twins are usual and that is how they are formed.
