No.908 by Krassimir Gandev – Roses in a Circe-problem! (JV)

Definitions:

Circe: Captured units (not Ks) reappear on their game-array squares, of the same colour in the case of pieces, on the file of capture in the case of pawns, and on the promotion square of the file of capture in the case of fairy pieces. If the rebirth square is occupied the capture is normal.

Ibis(15): (1,5) Knight.

Berolina-Pawn(BP): Walk and capture are swapped relative to the orthodox Pawn. The Berolina-Pawn moves without capturing diagonally (possibly two squares if it is on the second row of its side) and captures vertically.

Rose(RO): (1,2) Octagonal Rider (extents the move of the Knight on a circular path e.g. a4-b6-d7-f6-g4-f2-d1-b2 or a4-c5-e4-f2).

1. seetharaman says:

Berolina pawn not needed. The problem is sound with ordinary pawn on h4 when some of the pieces are moved left! e.g.
white Ke8 rod6d5
black Ph4 Kc5 15g1b8
neutral rh5 bf8

2. Georgy Evseev says:

Orthodox scheme (with knights and white rear battery pieces) is extremely well known.

The earliest realisation is probably:
