No.914, 915 by Petko A. Petkov – Two rich thematic complexes with Super-Pawns and combination of conditions Take&Make + Anti-Take&Make (Popeye’s implementation).  (JV)

Definitions:

Anti-Andernach: A piece (excluding King) changes its color after any non-capturing move. After capture, the piece retains its color. Rooks on a1, h1, a8 and h8 can be used for castling, provided the usual other rules for that move are satisfied. After castling, Rooks do not change color, If White makes a non-capturing move with neutral or halfneutral piece, that piece becomes black and vice versa.

Take & Make: Having captured, a unit must immediately, as part of its move, play a non-capturing move in imitation of the captured unit from the capture-square. If no such move is available, the capture is illegal. Promotion by capture occurs only when a pawn arrives on the promotion rank as the result of a take&make move. Checks are as in normal chess: after the notional capture of the checked K, the checking unit does not move away from the King’s square.

Anti Take & Make: Every capture (“take”) must be complemented by a further step (“make” which is not a capture) by the captured piece (Kings excluded), which must move from its square of vanish (according to the wishes of the capturing side in case of options). The capture is forbidden if the captured unit has no possible moves. Promotions at the end of the “make” element are normal.

Berolina Super-pawn(BS): It is Berolina-Pawn but its moves and captures are respectively extended to the entire diagonal and the entire column.

Super Pawn(SP): Moves straight forwards and captures diagonally forwards through as many empty squares as desired. Promotion is normal.

LEO(LE): Chinese Queen. Moves as Queen, but captures only by hopping over a hurdle to any square beyond.

PAO(PA): Chinese piece operating along Rook lines: moves as Rook, but captures only by hopping over a hurdle to any square beyond.

Four times bi-coloured Bristol (white BS/black BS + black BS/white BS in each solution) with interchange of functions of two duos of thematic pieces: BSc2/BSd2 and BSe6/BSg7. The Bristol-mechanisms are not ready at the beginning, they are forming in the process of the play. 2. Double blocks of black BS by white BS in each solution with a paradoxical pattern: first the white BS blocks as a back Bristol figure, and then - as a front Bristol piece! There is also an additional block of other - orthodox black Pawn! 3. Inclusion of both PAOs - in a) solution by the white BS in b) solution - by the black BS. A very surprising three chameleon-echo model-mates demonstrated by the both black Super-Pawns and white LEO - as block-piece which shows super activity! Miniature that demonstrates White-Black Bristol K/SP. 2. In every solutions there are three special anti-batteries created by the black and white pieces - two indirect: wKing/PAO and bSP/PAO; and one direct SP/LEO. 3. There are typical fairy mates: the captures of the both SPs in the final position are impossible because the Anti-Take&Make part of the complex condition is also impossible! 4. This problem is composed according to Popeye-version for the combination Take&Make+ Anti-Take&Make in which the priority has Take&Make! But I have to point, that WinChloe version (Anti-Take Make has priority!) is also very interesting. I will soon publish a many problems rather by WinChloe's version! (Author)
