    Reaching a square in N moves is strictly equivalent to checkmate an immobile King on the same square in N-1 moves, isn’t it?

      I agree. But in this case, the interest is more in the path of the WS and the way B forces a particular route… rather than in the final mate.

        You are right! IBlack defences using no-capture rule and white’s unique route being forced depending on black’s plan is interesting.

      Black: Bb7 Sa8

      White can mate a royal dummy on g7 in one, but can’t reach g7 in 2.
