About TT10 Quartz: must say that it is possible a mate by Black. In this case, the stipulation should be:

Position after the Nth
move by White, then #1 by Black.

followed by the fairy genre.

Tadashi Wakashima and Mark Ridley kindly accepted to judge this TT10.

Dear Paul,

Thanks for this nice theme! I have a suggestion though: to allow stipulation of the form “PG N.0 white is checkmated” (or PG N.5 black is checkmated). Indeed it may appear that the problem is still sound and the diagram position more mysterious (closer to the initial game array, say), after the mating move.

It is for example the case in your example B – it looks still correct (?) with stipulation “PG 5.5 black is checkmated” and at-home diagram position where b1 f8 g8 h8 are missing. If really still sound, there is no doubt to my eyes that example B is better with those changings…

Dear Nicolas, thank you for your interest in this new genre (say L’Enigme Tacu). Your idea is interesting. I add that the G (see article) can also be transformed in the same way (Position matant in 5.5 moves).

Thanks Paul. The version where the diagram position is given after the mating move will be discussed here:

Does rule b) of TT10 implies that a problem with Fischer Random Chess stipulation is not thematic? As far as I remember it is a chess variant but not a fairy genre.

Fairy genre means non-orthodoxe, so Fischer Random Chess is allowed. It is also acceptable a series PG (White moves only), with or without a final black move.
