I’m happy to welcome 2 new authors, the top fairy masters of Russia, Georgy Evseev and Lev Grolman! Enjoy a joint problem:

No.144 – h#3 – An excellent Four-men with neutral King! (JV)

A little comment to this problem:

It is C+ by WinChloe, but doesn’t have solutions in case of using Popeye (same as many other problems, which are also correct either using Popeye, or WinChloe). This is because some fairy conditions are programmed differently in different programs. In this particular case I’ve asked one of the authors, Georgy Evseev, to comment where’s the difference. And I’d like to quote (in my translation) the answer:
Most probably, the differences are the result of combination of the neutral pieces and Madrasi condition. The most common approach (nominated by Petko Petkov and implemented in WinChloe) suggests that the neutral piece always unconditionally paralyzes the piece of any color. Popeye uses a milder assumptions, and as a result the King seems to become in check and the solutions do not work.
As a similar example you can see a problem with WinChloe ID 173233. For that problem Popeye, as opposed to Winchloe, shows several cooks,  related to the neglect of the paralysis of the white piece attacked by the neutral.

Definitions

Circe Parrain: After a capture, the captured piece is reborn only after another piece of its own side has moved. The line between capturing square and rebirth square is parallel with and of same direction and length as the move of this other piece. Pawns can be reborn on 1st and 8th rank. From their own base rank, they may move one-step; if reborn on the promotion rank, the Pawn at once promotes, the promotion piece being determined by the Pawn side.

Madrasi  – Units, other than Kings, are paralysed when they attack each other. Paralysed units cannot move, capture or give check, their only power being that of causing paralysis.

Three different captures of a paralying neutral bishop and King mated on three different squares. Very nice echo mates with typical Parrain Circe effects! Lot of variety with only four men !
