No.239 – ser-hZ167 by Branko Koludrovic & Arno Tüngler – authors write “currently we are working on overall series records with promoted force (but a legal position). The beneath is the current length record in the category “Series-help targetsquare” “.   (JV)

No.239.1 – ser-hZe2 205 by Arno Tüngler – author writes “It beats the former record of Branko and me by 38 moves (what is quite an achievement in this very special field). Still both positions have their merits and could both participate in the tournament.”  (JV)

Definition given by authors:

ser-hZxyn means Series-help targetsquare xy in n moves. The “Z” in the stipulation stands for the German word “Ziel” or targetsquare, that means the square that Black wants to help occupy by White. In the diagram this means that Black plays 167 moves to help White reaching the target square g7.

The beneath is the current length record in the category “Series-help targetsquare”. This is not a “serious chessproblem” in terms of thematical depth. Maybe someone is encouraged to beat the record or to take part in the developing of other new records on chessproblems.ca. 1. Paul Raican says:

The above position is legal:
Black captures twice with its pawns (a7xPb6 and d7xPc4) what accounts for both missing white units. Also, both black Pawns e7 and g7 have promoted on e1 and g1 respectively into Bishops without capturing.
White promoted the wPa2 on a8 into the first of three promoted officers (but in Rook or Knight only). White Pe7 came from d2, the e2-Pawn promoted on d8 into the second (what needs two captures of black units), Pg7 came from h2, the g2-pawn promoted on h8 into the third (what needs the last two captures of black units).
For me, is nice to see this kind of problems in Julia’s fairies. Arno and Branko are known promoters of series-movers length records.

Some of the mechanisms (at least) are well known – and were even before the famous Ser-h=153 by Markus Ott, Prize feenschach 1980, see P1224276 or e.g. this site. However, congratulations to Branko & Arno for another record achievement that will be hard to beat!
