Great idea is probably shown first time and with reasonably limited fairy force!

For those, who do not understand what is going on, here is a short explanation.

After the key, there are for thematic squares – d3, d5, f3 and f5 from which white can threaten black king.

AD piece from any square can and will only guard three of these squares. And as it is kamikaze, after capture it leaves board and loses all its guards.

In thematic variations one of thematic squares is guarded three times and three remaining are guarded twice. The first sacrifice is made on the square which is guarded three times. The capture loses two guards from other squares and so now remaining squares are guarded twice, once and once.

The third move is made to the square which is guarded twice. One additional guard is lost and one of the squares remains unguarded white allows white mate from it.

As a result, all 24 different sequences out of four white moves on 2nd-3rd-4th moves are shown. One can find all kind of cycles here, but they will be only insignificant part of beautiful picture.

Excellent achievement!

It is not the first four-move extension of the Jacobs theme. If I remember correctly, this composer published an article about the theme in feenschach 1984. One of his examples (I believe, I don’t have the reference at hand right now) was WinChloe 564183, a #4 with three Zebras as the only fairy element, where four black knights each guard three out of four potential mating squares. Black is in zugzwang, must move one of the knights … and you know the rest.

Which is not to detract from the quality of this No. 950 – which is in “rotating” form instead of zugzwang, with one of the thematic continuations threatening.
