Some time ago I had a pleasure to show you a joint problem by world-known German authors – Dieter Müller, Franz Pachl & Sven Trommler – No.87.
This time I’m happy to get and to present to you one more problem by Franz Pachl !
No.133 – h#2 – Le Grand theme with 4 white fairy promotions. (JV)
Definition:
Grasshopper(G): Moves along Q-lines over another unit of either color to the square immediately beyond that unit. A capture may be made on arrival, but the hurdle is not affected.
Double Grasshopper(DG): Makes a Grasshopper move without capturing, then a 2nd Grasshopper move.
Camel – (1,3) Leaper
Zebre – (2,3) Leaper
RAO (Chinese Rose) – plays as a Leo but on Rose-lines only.
LEO(LE): Moves as Queen, but captures only by hopping over a hurdle to any square beyond.
PWC – When a capture is made, the captured unit (except a King) is replaced on the square the capturing unit just leaves. A Pawn is immovable on its 1st rank.

The diagrams are made on WinChloe and its Echecs font is used for Logo design
Interesting mechanism using guard/unguard of squares around the black King. Good find !
Nice cycle and good refutations. It may be wishing for too much, but I wish that the author had found a way to bring in the other two mates also after the key (by self blocks perhaps) 🙂
This instantly reminds me of my own PWC problem with fairy AUW and with additional Ultrapatrol chess condition: http://www.jurajlorinc.com/chess/spbo15.htm#uloha7 (also G180 in AF 2001-2003)
As complete 4-fold Shedey cycle it naturally includes two 4-fold cyclic Ukrainian cycles (cyclic le Grands in the above terminology). My idea was to replace usual guarding of squares by patrolling the pieces that subsequently give mate by newly acquired mobility.
I would like to point some moments of the present problem:
+ non-symmetrical arrangement of guarded squares
+ skillful use of antibattery mates (DGs can be difficult to tame) and lines in general
Thanks for showing this nice problem of yours Juraj Lorinc. That you could produce a 4-fold Shedey Cycle using two other captures also was a great achievement in conception and construction !
