All-in-Chess: Each side may move pieces of any colour, but may not repeat the position reached after the previous move. (Currently, neither Popeye nor WinChloe include this condition. So, the problem below is C-).
Growing Men: Each unit moves at least as far as it did the last time it played (measured geometrically between the square centres).

White Ka6 Rd7 Pd5e4f3g2
Black Ka8 Se8f8 Bg8 Pd6e5f4g3h3
#9 (6+9) All-in-Chess Growing Men
|
1.Rd7-d8 Rd8*d6 {
1...Rb8? 2. Rxe8+ etc. as in text, mates in 8 moves.
} 2.Rd6-d8+ {
Black can now neither play Rd6 because of 'All in chess' nor play Rd7 because of 'Growing Men' !
} 2...Rd8-b8! 3.Rb8*e8+ Re8*e5! {
Again, 3 ... Rb8 4.Rxf8+ mates early.
} 4.Re5-e8+ {
Again, black can now neither play Re5 nor play Re7 or Re6.
} 4...Re8-b8! 5.Rb8*f8+! Rf8*f4
6.Rf4-f8+ Rf8-b8! 7.Rb8*g8+! Rg8*g3! {
} 8.Rg3-g8+ Rg8-b8 9.Rb8-h8# {
(C-; All In Chess condition is not implemented yet)}

An interesting vertical and horizontal zig-zag strategy by the the WR. Typical A-i-C effects as well as “growing men” effects utilised well.
Is it really mate? Why black cannot play 9…Rb8?
Because, under the rules of All-in-Chess, you cannot repeat the same position which was reached before the last move
i.e, no “switchbacks” allowed… except when the last move was a capture
1.Rd8 is a check, isn’t it?
Just wondering as the current notation may look like there is quiet key. But I might be wrong…
You’re right. 1.Rd8 IS a check!
The “+” seems to have been missed.
Yes. 1.Rd8 IS a check. An error, which i did not notice while sending the problem. Thanks, Shankar ram for clarifying.
There is another error. The fairy condition is ‘Growing Men’ and not ‘Growing Man’. Julia, can you correct it please?
