The other possible first move 1.Sf7 leads to the white reflex 2.Sxg5, hence to an
ignored shorter solution. Each second move except the switchback 2.Sh8 is
either a check or leads to the black reflex capture of the Knight.
Of course this is mainly a joke problem with poor content and obvious solution,
nevertheless I hope that it has some theoretical interest, as it seems to be the
very first illustration of the Reflex condition on a direct series.
Note that the white Reflex on such a direct series is an empty notion (it only
makes sense when applied to an exact direct series, where white must take
care to not give itself the possibility to reach the goal too early), but the black
Reflex on a direct series is far from empty – white must take care to not let a
position where black may reach the goal, even if this side never plays in a
normal direct series.
This “happy new year” problem is Jacobi C+ according to the next version, to be
available soon, which will introduce the possibility to check some new reflex
genres, especially on direct series. (Author)
