I think the main point is not in the promotions, but rather in the specific pins of bB and bS, and in the exchange of Patrol effects on the d file:
in a), the wS is first patrolled by Rd2 and can capture on c4, then the wB is patrolled and can capture on b5; in b), it’s the other way around.
Another fine problem by this composer!
