No.145 – hs#3* by Julia Vysotska – My lovely Chameleons again, but this time with Anti-Andernach condition. (JV)
Definitions:
Chameleon: On completing a move, a Chameleon (from classical standard type) changes into another piece, in the sequence Q-S-B-R-Q… Promotion may be to a chameleon at any stage in the cycle.
Anti-Andernach Chess: a unit (not King) changes color after its moves unless that move is a capture. (Or: a unit (King excluded) changes color on completion of a non-capturing move.)

Very nice. Surprising mutual battery formation by white! (Initially I thought there might be white halfpin, then realised there is no way to realise it in this setting). Can it be done without those captures ?
Thanks! In case of Anti-Andernach I’d need at least one capture to have a battery-play. The square e3 could be empty, and instead of sacrifice of bS/bR it could be some white’s move to e3, changing color to black, and then captured by chameleon again. I believe it is more complicated to realize, at least, in such setting. After all, I like sacrifices a lot! 🙂
You are right Julia! My question was in effect whether Anti Andernach is essential for the mechanism of the problem. Forming the white mutual batteries and firing them uses the Chameleon effect mainly.
