23.11, 9pm: 54 people had died after the roof of a supermarket “Maxima” collapsed in Latvian capital, Riga. The roof smashed down on customers during peak shopping hours around 6:00 pm on Thursday in the Riga suburb of Zolitude. Search teams have stopped working this evening, after the last remaining section of the roof caved in. No more hope for any alive people to be found.. The tragedy shocked the Baltic states. Latvian government has declared three days of mourning starting on Saturday and planning to hold a moment of silence on Monday.
Julia’sFairies website expresses its deepest condolences to the victims of the tragic accident, their families and friends.
Shocking tragedy. No words can console the bereved family members. Hope they get the strength to recover.
saw the news in the paper today morning..
immediate thought was for julia..
really tragic..
just a few days after Latvian independence day.. 18-Nov..
I heard the news few hours after the incident when the victims was only three. But now it is clear that the tragedy is so huge… Condolences to all victims and their families…
Most of us didn’t realize at the very beginning what a terrible tragedy has happened… while there’re 4 victims in the late evening of the 21th. The 22nd we’ve spent reading news.. every hour several more dead people..
In my life I don’t remember the same huge tragedy here, in Riga. And Latvia seems to be not ready for anything like this. I guess, we don’t have also the qualified search/lifesaving teams. Maybe it would be possible to save more lives if we had..
We all are shocked.. thinking of kids who’ve lost their parents… broken families..
I haven’t been close to that place myself. It’s the opposite region of Riga from mine. My family and friends are all ok.
Thank you for your condolences!
It is a very sad news! My heartfelt condolences for the bereaved families.
