No.856, 857 by Karol Mlynka – Two different kinds of problems show specific effects of Super-Transmuting King. (JV)
No.856.1 by Karol Mlynka & Seetharaman K. – An improved version of No.856. (JV)
Definitions:
Rook-Locust(LR): Moves along Rook lines only by capturing an enemy unit, arriving on the square immediately beyond that unit, which must be vacant (Moves like Locust, but on Rook-lines only).
Pressburger King (Super-Transmuting King): After being checked, the Supertransmuting King must immediately move like the checking piece and then losing his royal status definitively takes up its nature. When no such move is available, the ST King side parries the check normally. If the checked King cannot move, it is a mate.
Transmuted Kings: When they are threatened, the Kings move only like the threatening unit(s).

Sol: 1.g8=LR Qg5 + 2.LRg8*g5-g4 + K*g4-h4=LR#
Thank you very much, Ram. I’m glad you’re a new co-author. We ask Julia to adjust it in the publication.
Karol
Thanks Karol Mlynka! Glad to be associated with a famous name 🙂
856.1:
With the black bishop at c6, blackTransmutingking will work as well. Supertransmuting not necessary. Sorry I did not notice it immediately.
Yes, BlackTransmutedKing is good.
Ok, condition for No.856.1 is corrected to Black Transmuted King!
Thanks Julia for instant response !
In fact it looks like the only reason Transmuting King is used is to avoid some duals on the mating move.
You are right Georgy. Duals can also be avoided by using a black royal rook-hopper. But solution ((b) will not work. Perhaps there is another setting where it may work.
The solution by 856.1 is now
(without transformation to LR):
a) 1.b7-b8=LR Qc5-b5 2.LRb8*b5-b4+ Ke4*b4-a4#;
b) wPb7–>e7
1.e7-e8=LR+ Qc5-e7 2.LRe8*e7-e6+ Ke4*e6-e7#;
c) wPb7–>g7
1.g7-g8=LR Qc5-g5+ 2.LRg8*g5-g4+ Ke4*g4-h4#.
