No.870 by Georgy Evseev – Specific pins in Anti-Circe play with Orthodox Queen. (JV)
Definitions:
Anti-Circe: After a capture the capturing piece (Ks included) must immediately be removed to its game array square (necessarily vacant, else the capture is illegal). Captures on the rebirth square are allowed. Game array squares are determined as in Circe.
Circe: Captured units (not Ks) reappear on their game-array squares, of the same colour in the case of pieces, on the file of capture in the case of pawns, and on the promotion square of the file of capture in the case of fairy pieces. If the rebirth square is occupied the capture is normal.
Royal piece: Piece that executes a function of the King on the board.

Spectacular line-play doubled! So AntiCirce is another way to mate a neutral king with neutral pieces – because when capturing, they move differently for White and Black.
A slight pity that two pawns, one of them neutral, are idle in part b).
The ortho-Q is clearly needed, as it does not seem possible to introduce a wR for W3 with regular twinning.
From the constructional point of view it is clear that Georgy went for the most economical position at the cost of unusual “fairy” piece – Anticirce-less queen.
After some trying I think it is really not easy to find a position without such technical help, with just Anticirce involved. I was trying mainly to replace neutral royal pawn by other neutral royal piece and involve white rook to guard some square, i.e. to introduce exchange of function between queen and rook, but clearly a lot of material would be needed to guard everything properly.
It is a pity that such technical help is needed as otherwise the main scheme with 4 consecutive checks, d2 as crossroads, playing squares b8, d8, f8, h8… all is working, just such a bad technical detail – special queen.
‘Ortho-queen’ in a fairy condition appears such a bad detail for Juraj… but personally I think it is similar to using a fairy piece. Perhaps there should be option to use fairy pieces instead of fairy condition applying to all. After all I think the initial invention was Circe pieces.
You are quite right – it is similar to the use of fairy piece in setting otherwise consisting from orthodox pieces. It can be okay if the fairy piece is central to the idea of problem, but it is an issue if the fairy piece is merely technical means to overcome constructional difficulties. In this sense the perfect fairy scheme with great interplay of neutrals and Anticirce has diminished value as final product, unfortunately.
