No.645 by Peter Harris – Imitator in the interesting Tanagra where the both sides have only a pair K+Q! (some strange things about Popeye versions again) (JV)
Definitions:
Transmuted Kings: When they are threatened, the Kings move only like the threatening unit(s).
Imitator(I): Every time a piece moves an Imitator (or a set of Imitators) moves simultaneously in an identical manner. An Imitatorcannot move of itself. If an Imitator cannot imitate the move of a piece, the move is illegal. An Imitator may only pass through or enter an unoccupied square and cannot move off the board. (this version of the definition is proposed by Peter Harris after the one shown in the Forum’s post). Castling is imitated by decomposing into a King move followed by a Rook move.

It is h#1.5, not h#2. And as h#1.5 WinChloe 3.30 gives solutions as stated.
Thanks, Juraj! I’ve corrected the stipulation under the diagram. And you’re right again, I’ve used “,” between the twins in WinChloe that’s why had no c) solution. It is really C+ by WinChloe 3.30 (http://prntscr.com/57n6x6)
I tried to find out where Popeye is wrong.
In part a), Py 4.69 sees all the moves of the solution (and considers them all to be legal), and sees that Black is in check at the end. But Py thinks this is not mate!
Why? Because Py considers moves like Ka1(Ic8) to be legal (and of course also Kb1, Kc1, and Kd1). So Py apparently doesn’t realize that the Imitator can be interfered with (by Kg8).
Py 4.69 is correct if we replace the bK by a bQ in the position after solution a) – no black move is legal. So its mistake comes from the Transmuted Kings condition.
I had the idea of replacing the bK by a black Dabbaba – a (0,2) leaper. Then py 4.69 considers 1.DAf1-d1[If8] as legal, which is correct I guess.
As a consequence we might suggest that, for py 4.69, the King is moving as a leaper (and same thing for its imitator) even when transmuted by a rider…
