No.757 by Geoff Foster – Three nice mates by Back-To-Back neutral pair in a three-men problem! (JV)
Definition:
Back-To-Back: When pieces of opposite colors stand back-to-back with each other on the same file (white piece is on the top of black!), they exchange their roles. A pawn on the first rank cannot move. Any piece can make an en passant capture when it has got a role of Pawn by Back-To-Back.

I like this light problem! The double check done 3 times with a BTB pair nS/nQ: one check by nQ and another one by nS in the role of Q. For the Black, escaping with nS won’t defence from the mate by nQ, but all possible moves of the nQ in the role of S would give an illegal selfcheck again.
Yes it is a pretty echo !
Congratulations Geoff

Supreme elegance, bravo!
How might it be called, a “BTB+anti-BTB selfcheck-incarceration”?
BTB effect determines whereto nQ might move but then, the cesser of BTB effect would cause a selfcheck.
🙂
Very nice
If anyone is ever to write a treatise on the combined elements of Neutrals+BTB, this example should go in there. A succint demonstration, with beautiful three-solution echo. Funny, too (KxnQ is no defense)!
Well said, Mike! Appears to be the best definition for BTB. Even I can understand it without any confusion!
