Definitions:
Elan: Moves like a Grasshopper ((0,1)+(1,1)Hopper), but deflects 45° either way on passing over the hurdle. The arrival square is adjacent to the hurdle.
Hopper (m,n) (family): Moves along (m,n) Rider lines stopping on the next square after the first obstacle of either color. A capture may be made on arrival, but the hurdle is not affected.
Paralyzing piece: Moves as normal but cannot capture; instead it paralyses any enemy unit it attacks, so that this unit is unable to move, capture or give check, until the attack from the paralyzing piece ceases. At the mate the side being mated must have at least one move available before the notional capture of the King.

Good example for two of my favourite fairy elements – paralysing units and moose.
(What? Oh yes, elan is a French name of piece usually called moose in English.)
On one hand, moose lines are quite dynamic and sometimes confusing, on the other hand it can be pretty difficult to tame moose. Note e.g. Ma1 guarding both f7 for thematic content as well as b6 for dual avoidance in by-variation.
More moose and paralysing units problems, please!

similarly, Ef5 stops a no solution 1..Kb7/b8 2.d7 (not mate, due to Ef5 paralysing wkc7)
Yes.. i remember it was called a moose in chessics too..
there was an article in chessics or rex multiplex about the 3 types of “bent” Gs: elan, aigle, moineau..
Elan (F) = moose (E)
Aigle (F) = eagle (E)
Moineau (F) = sparrow (E)

Of course a beautiful problem (with one of my favourite themes !)
But if this could mean the return of NSR to chess composition, this would be much more than a beautiful problem, it would be an important event for chess problem world !

I can only agree with Jean-Marc. I still remember his quick rise to fame some 30 years ago, with a long series of inventive problems, and I recall receiving originals on ultra-thin airmail paper from India. I would love to see NSR the composer back!
