No.303 by Julia Vysotska – A play of two neutral Sirens, annihilation captures and critical moves! (JV)
No.303.1 by Julia Vysotska – An improvement to No.303, with a gratitude to Nikola Predrag for his advise in the comments and for letting me construct this version myself! (JV)
Definition:
Siren (SI): A piece that plays as a Queen but captures only as a Locust.
Locust (L): moves on Q-lines but only by capturing an enemy unit, arriving on the square immediately beyond that unit, which must be vacant.

Nice effects in well matched solutions !
The idea is more interesting than it might look at the first sight.
Having no earlier experience with Sirenes, I could be wrong, but my impression is that the mobility of Sirenes is not easy to control. In some aspects a pair of neutral Sirenes seems more powerfull than a pair of neutral Queens. Certainly concerning the possibilities of double-check by ecto-batteries.
Utilizing the intended ecto-battery but avoiding those unwanted, with the additional luxury of (anti?)critical move, this beautifully highlights the power, as well as some disabilities of Neutral Sirenes.
Wonderful concept, Julia!
Still, personally I would prefere 2 solutions (3+4+2) with reciprocal functions of black pieces (passive selfblock and active thematic sacrifice) 🙂
Thanks you, Nikola! But does it mean you have that 3+4+2 version? 🙂
Yes, it’s actually your scheme but the direction of critical moves is opposite so the last moves are 2…nSIxe5-d4# and 2…nSIc6xd7#. Instead of wPe3/f4 there is wB. There are two black selfblocks. c5 must be guarded by White only in one solution and there’s a black cookstopper on e7, so there still might be some improvement. There are 3 solutions, one is pseudo-thematic but as such it may fit in the whole logic. Anyway, that 3rd solution could be eliminated by adequate putting wK on the board.
Thank you, Nikola, for letting me to construct it myself!
I believe, this is the one you’ve written about:

h#2; Siren e8, b2; (3+4+2)
I. 1.nSIb2-f6 nSIe8-b5 + 2.Sc4-e5 nSIf6*e5-d4 #
II. 1.nSIe8-a4 nSIb2-g2 + 2.Re6-c6 nSIa4*c6-d7 #
Let me think about it….. thanks!
Julia, in both tries the first white moves are not checks, because the bQ blocks the arrival squares of the nSi, so you can remove the “+”.
But of course, thanks! Automatically have copied from the solution. 🙂 Corrected.
