No.899 by Stephen Emmerson – Relegation Chess in a play of two Knights! (JV)
Definition:
Relegation Chess: In addition to promotion of pawns to pieces, pieces (Q,R,B,S) arriving back on their pawns’ home rank are “relegated” – changed back to pawns. (OR: If a piece (not King or Pawns) reaches the Pawns’ starting rank of the same side, it changes to a pawn).

No cookstoppers! I had versions in H#4 (BS->g1; 1.Sh3 etc.) and H#3 (WS->e8) which only need Ps to block/guard a4,b4; but both required an extra wP/bP to prevent cooks.
A witty idea! Instead of pawns walking all the way from the starting position to the promotion rank to become knights, as in the 100$ theme, we have knights walking all the way from the promotion rank to the starting position to turn back into pawns!
Anti-100$ theme??
hm…. 100$ theme reversal? 🙂
