st-germain-au-mont-d-orThis year, the 36th RIFACE (Rencontre Internationale en France des Amateurs de Composition Echiquéenne) will take place from Friday, May 22, 2015 (evening) to Monday, May 25, 2015 (noon) at Saint-Germain au Mont d’Or instead of the traditional location at Messigny.

Themes are the following:

  • (19.05) No.808 – Daniel Novomesky (hs#2; Disparate (Py)). An elegant Disparate-Tanagra!
  • (17.05) No.807 – Petko A. Petkov (hs#2,5; Disparate (Py), Andernach; Nichtrider, Camel). Paradoxical play of the bR in a rich thematic complex, created by combination of Disparate(Py) and Andernach conditions! Model mates in four phases.
  • (17.05) No.806 – Krassimir Gandev (ser-s#7; Reverse Pawn, Super Pawn, Berolina Super Pawn, Rose, Dummy, Royal piece). Three promoted pieces pinned by Rose in serial S#! My gratitude for the dedication!
  • (17.05) No.805 – Michael Grushko (ser-h#5; Parrain Circe; Einstein Chess; Phantom Chess). A four-men with a final transformation of three neutral Knights into three different pieces! Compare with No.791, where three neutral pawns play with the same combination of fairy conditions.
  • (16.05) No.804 – Aleksey Oganesjan (hs#6,5). Non-standard idea in HS#, with some reflections on a classical S# in its final.
  • (13.05) No.803 – Sébastien Luce (ser-=8; Royal Pawn; Anti-Circe Vertical Mirror). Albino in serial Anti-Circe Vertical Mirror Miniature!
  • (12.05) No.802 – Krassimir Gandev (2->Ser-H=14; Royal Reverse Pawn; Super Pawns; Grasshopper). Black promotions in Ser-H= with an introduction of two white moves!
  • (12.05) No.801 – Karol Mlynka (h#4.5; Volage; Royal pieces; Grasshopper; Bishop-Moose). Promotions and mates by Royal pawn in 5 phases!
  • (11.05) No.800 – Nikola Predrag (pser-s#11; Circe). Albino theme, but with Pser-s# stipulation and Circe! I’m happy to announce that the number of Original problems published on JF has reached 800!

2nd Israel Open Solving Championship

The Israel Chess Composition Society is glad to announce the 2nd Israel Open Solving Championship. The event will be held in a similar format to the ISC, with a single difference:  B category will consist of 6 problems in each round instead of 4. However the problems in this category will be significantly lighter and simpler, thus inexperienced solvers can win points.

Date: Sunday June 21st 2015, 11:00 CET.

Main controller will be Paz Einat. All countries who wish to participate should contact the main controller by e-mail:  pazeinat@gmail.com. Final date for registration: June 11th 2015. The local controllers will receive all necessary word-format documents by e-mail no later than June 15th 2015. Results will be available on www.variantim.org. Top places are guaranteed medals which will be given in the upcoming congress in Ostroda.

  • (19.04) No.783 – Daniel Novomesky (PG 5,5; Pongracz Circe Vertical Mirror). PG with a chain of Circe rebirths, demonstrating condition Pongracz Circe.
  • (18.04) No.782 – Alberto Armeni & Vito Rallo (h#2; Orphan; Imitator). AUW in a joint play of Orphan and Imitator (not supported in Popeye)! But if the creation of twin d) is legal?
  • (17.04) No.781 – Eric Huber & Vlaicu Crișan (hs#2.5; Nightrider; Isardam; Super-Circe). An interesting play which surprisingly ends with aristocratic Chameleon-echo mates!
  • (16.04) No.780 – Vitaly Medintsev (hs#3). A nice idea, presented in a light form! Warm welcome to Vitaly in Original problems section of JF!
  • (15.04) No.779 – Sébastien Luce (h#3.5; Annan Chess). Super-active white King in Annan Chess!
